Trim Audio Online (Ringtones & Podcast Clips)

xFormat trims audio files in your browser by start and end time, ideal for ringtones and podcast clips, and the audio is never uploaded to a server.

Runs in your browser — files never leave your device.

How it works

Cut an intro, pull out a quotable moment, or pick the best 30 seconds of a song for a ringtone. Drag the handles while you listen, trim and download, all on your own device.

  1. 1

Select your audio file and listen for the part you want.

  2. 2

Drag the start and end handles, nudge them by ±0.1 s or ±1 s, type exact times, or use the current playback position.

  3. 3

Click Trim and download the clip.

Making a ringtone

Pick the catchiest part, usually a chorus, and keep it short. iPhone ringtones are limited to 40 seconds, and 20 to 30 seconds is plenty on most phones. On Android you can usually choose an MP3 or similar file as a ringtone straight from settings.

The trimmed clip keeps the format of your original. iPhone ringtones need an M4A/AAC file with the .m4r extension, so you would still need to rename or import it with Apple's tools afterwards.

Clipping podcasts and interviews

For a quote or highlight, mark a start a second or two before the first word, and an end just after the last, so the clip does not sound chopped. Note the timestamp in your player to find the spot quickly.

Is the cut exact?

Audio is always cut without re-encoding, so quality is untouched. Audio frames are very short, about 23 to 26 milliseconds in MP3 and AAC, so even the fast cut is close to exact, far tighter than video keyframes. If you need sample-level precision or a fade, use an audio editor. Keep sources under about 500 MB on desktop and 200 MB on phones.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a ringtone from a song?

Trim the 20 to 30 seconds you want and download the clip. On Android you can set it directly, while iPhone needs it converted to a .m4r ringtone using Apple's tools.

Does trimming reduce audio quality?

No. The audio is cut without re-encoding, so the clip sounds exactly like the original.

Which formats can I trim?

Common audio files such as MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC and OGG.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Trimming happens in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.

Can I trim audio on my phone?

Yes, in a mobile browser. Keep the file under about 200 MB.
