PNG to WebP Converter

xFormat.space converts PNG images to WebP in your browser, preserving transparent backgrounds while letting you tune the file size, with no uploads to any server.

Runs in your browser — files never leave your device.

How it works

PNG is great for logos, screenshots and interface graphics, but the files can get heavy. WebP supports transparency too, so it can replace PNG on a website without losing the see-through background. Convert in batch here, locally on your device.

  1. 1

Drop your PNG files onto the page.

  2. 2

Select WebP as the output format and adjust the quality slider.

  3. 3

Click Start Conversion, check the new file sizes, and download.

The transparency advantage

Converting PNG to JPG fills transparency with white. WebP does not have that limitation, so a transparent logo, cut-out product photo or UI icon stays transparent after conversion. That is the main reason to choose WebP over JPG for PNG sources.

Watch the quality setting on graphics

The quality slider ranges from 10% to 100% and defaults to 92%. Photographs tolerate lower values well, but flat artwork, thin lines and small text show compression artifacts sooner, usually as smudging around edges. For logos and screenshots, keep the quality high and compare the output with the original at 100% zoom.

Check the sizes in the results list before you replace anything. Gains differ from image to image, and a tiny icon that is already small as PNG may not shrink much.

Before you swap files on your site

Current major browsers display WebP, but older apps, email clients and some upload forms don't open it, so keep your PNG originals as masters. For WebP export, use a recent Chrome, Edge or Firefox.

Frequently asked questions

Does PNG to WebP keep the transparent background?

Yes. WebP supports transparency, so transparent areas in your PNG stay transparent in the converted file.

Is WebP smaller than PNG?

Often, especially for photo-like images, but not always. Check the file sizes in the results list for your specific images.

Will converting PNG to WebP reduce quality?

At quality settings below 100% it is lossy, so some detail is discarded. Keep the quality high for text and sharp graphics.

Can I batch convert PNG files to WebP?

Yes. Add several PNGs, convert them together, and download them one by one or with Download All.

Do my PNG files leave my computer?

No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser, with no upload, no sign-up and no watermark.
