Edit MP3, M4A and FLAC Tags Online
xFormat edits the title, artist, album, year, track number, genre and cover art of MP3, M4A and FLAC files in your browser, saving them without re-encoding the audio or uploading the file.
Runs in your browser — files never leave your device.
How it works
Fix a song that shows up as "Track 01" or "Unknown Artist", add the right album art, or tidy a library before copying it to a phone or car. Because the audio data is copied as it is, there is no quality loss.
- 1
Select an MP3, M4A or FLAC file.
- 2
Edit the title, artist, album, year, track number and genre, and add, replace or remove the cover art.
- 3
Click Save and download the updated file.
Tags change, the sound does not
Song information lives in a tag block stored alongside the audio, such as ID3 in MP3 files. Editing it only rewrites that block, so the audio stream is copied untouched. Nothing is decoded or re-compressed, which makes the save fast and keeps the quality identical. MP3, M4A, FLAC and OGG files are written directly in your browser without downloading any extra engine. WAV and raw AAC files can't hold cover art.
Fixing what players and car stereos show
Players read the tags, not the file name. Wrong or empty fields are why songs appear as Unknown Artist or get filed under the wrong album. Correct the fields, save, and copy the new file over. If a phone app still shows the old info, remove the old song and re-scan or re-add it, because many players cache tags.
For cover art, JPG or PNG up to 5 MB is accepted. Car stereos and older players can be fussy about large images, so a square picture of around 500 by 500 pixels and a few hundred KB is a safe choice.
One file at a time
Edit and save each song separately, and keep a backup of originals you care about. Keep files under about 500 MB on desktop and about 200 MB on phones.
Frequently asked questions
Does editing tags reduce audio quality?
No. Only the tag information is changed, and the audio itself is copied without re-encoding.
Which fields can I edit?
Title, artist, album, year, track number and genre, plus the cover art image.
What cover art formats and size are allowed?
JPG and PNG images up to 5 MB. A square image of 500 to 1400 pixels works best.
Why does my player still show the old song info?
Many players and car stereos cache tag data. Re-import the file, rescan your library, or remove and re-add the song.
Is my music uploaded?
No. The file is edited in your browser and stays on your device.
