Convert FLAC to MP3 Online
xFormat converts FLAC files to MP3 in your browser at up to 320 kbps, so lossless music plays on any phone or car stereo, and the files never leave your device.
Runs in your browser — files never leave your device.
How it works
Your FLAC collection sounds great, but plenty of car stereos, old MP3 players and apps cannot play it, and the files eat storage. Make MP3 copies here and keep your FLAC originals untouched.
- 1
Select your FLAC file.
- 2
Choose MP3 and a bitrate (320 kbps for the closest match).
- 3
Click Convert and download the MP3.
Make copies, not replacements
FLAC is lossless, so it is your master copy. MP3 throws away detail permanently. The sensible workflow is to keep the FLAC files in your archive and make MP3 versions only for devices that need them: a car USB stick, a phone with limited space, or a player that has no FLAC support.
Picking a bitrate and what to expect
A typical FLAC album might take around 25 to 35 MB per track, depending on the music. At 320 kbps an MP3 is about 2.4 MB per minute, and at 192 kbps about 1.4 MB per minute, so a four-minute song is roughly 10 MB or 6 MB. The exact FLAC size varies with the music and its sample rate.
320 kbps is the best MP3 gets and is hard to distinguish from the original for most people. 192 kbps is a good compromise when storage matters.
Tags and cover art
Artist, album and title tags are normally carried over to the MP3. If a player still shows wrong information afterwards, fix it with xFormat's audio metadata editor. High-resolution FLAC (24-bit or high sample rate) is also converted, but the result is a standard MP3.
Frequently asked questions
Does FLAC to MP3 lose quality?
Yes, MP3 is lossy, so some detail is discarded permanently. At 320 kbps the difference is hard to hear, so keep your FLAC originals as the master.
Which bitrate is best for a car stereo?
320 kbps gives the best quality, and 192 kbps saves space with little audible difference in a noisy car.
Will my song titles and artist names be kept?
Tags usually carry over, and you can check or correct them afterwards with the metadata editor.
Are my FLAC files uploaded?
No. The conversion happens inside your browser, and your music stays on your device.
Can I convert on a phone?
Yes, though FLAC files are large, so convert them one at a time and keep each under about 200 MB.
