Crop Image Online
xFormat.space crops photos in your browser, freehand or locked to ratios such as 1:1, 4:5, 9:16 and 16:9, and never uploads your picture to a server.
Runs in your browser — files never leave your device.
How it works
Drag the crop box over the part of the picture you want, rotate or flip it if needed, and save. For a freehand crop, leave the size fields empty. For a fixed ratio, choose a preset or enter a width and height. It all runs on your device.
- 1
Drop an image onto the page and open Crop & Resize.
- 2
Leave "Free Crop" selected, or pick a preset or enter a width and height to lock the ratio.
- 3
Drag and zoom the image to frame your crop, click Apply Crop, and download.
Free crop vs. locked ratio
With Free Crop, you drag the edges wherever you like and the output keeps the exact pixels inside the selection, with no scaling, so no quality is lost by resampling. The tool shows the selection size so you know what you will get.
To lock a ratio, enter a width and height or pick a preset. There's no separate ratio list, but the presets map to the usual shapes: 1:1 (Instagram Square 1080 x 1080), 4:5 (Instagram Portrait 1080 x 1350), 9:16 (Instagram Story 1080 x 1920, and also vertical video covers), about 1.9:1 (Facebook 1200 x 630 and LinkedIn 1200 x 627), and 16:9 (Twitter 1200 x 675, HD, Full HD, 4K). A custom size such as 3 x 2 works too.
Framing tips
Fix the orientation first. The toolbar can rotate 90 degrees either way, flip horizontally or vertically, zoom in and out, or reset. Zoom in to place a face or product precisely inside a locked frame.
Note that in locked-ratio mode, the result is scaled to the target size you chose, so a small selection scaled up to 1080 pixels can look soft. Cropped output keeps the original file type.
Frequently asked questions
How do I crop an image to a 1:1 square?
Pick the Instagram Square preset, or enter the same number for width and height, then move the square over your subject and click Apply Crop.
Can I crop freehand without a fixed ratio?
Yes. Keep Free Crop selected and drag the box to any shape. The output uses the original pixels inside the selection.
Does cropping reduce image quality?
A free crop keeps the original pixels, so detail inside the box is unchanged, though lossy formats are re-saved. A locked-size crop scales the selection, which can soften small areas.
Can I rotate or flip the image while cropping?
Yes. Rotate 90 degrees left or right, flip horizontally or vertically, zoom, and reset from the toolbar.
Is my picture uploaded when I crop it?
No. Everything runs in your browser. There is no upload, no sign-up and no watermark.
