Why process files locally?
Private by design
Files are processed on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, so nothing can leak, be logged or be kept.
No upload, no queue
Large files start processing right away instead of crawling up to a server and back down again.
Works on any device
Desktop or phone, Windows, macOS, iOS or Android — all you need is a modern browser.
Frequently asked questions
Is xFormat.space really free?
Yes. Every tool is free with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit. The work happens on your own device, so there are no server costs to pass on.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Files are read and processed inside your browser tab and saved straight back to your device. The only downloads are processing components, such as the text-recognition model or, for formats your browser can't handle natively, a compatibility engine. They are fetched once from a public CDN and cached.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. The tools work in modern mobile browsers, and on a phone you can share results straight to Photos or other apps. Very large videos are limited by the phone's memory, so trim or compress long recordings first.
What is the maximum file size?
Images and PDFs are limited only by your device. For video and audio, files up to about 500 MB work well in a desktop browser and about 200 MB on a phone, because the whole file is processed in memory.
Do I have to download anything to convert video?
Usually not. Most video and audio jobs run on your browser's built-in, hardware-accelerated media encoders and start right away. Only formats the browser can't handle, such as AVI or FLV, need the compatibility engine, a one-time download of about 31 MB that is cached afterwards.
What's a safe way to convert a file without uploading it to a website?
Use a converter that runs inside your browser. xFormat.space converts and compresses video, audio, images and PDFs locally in the browser tab, so the file never leaves your device and there is nothing to install. Once a tool has loaded, it even keeps working offline.
Can I convert or compress files on my phone without installing an app?
Yes. Open xFormat.space in Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android, pick a tool and choose the file from your photos or files. The result is saved back to your phone or shared straight to another app. Nothing is installed and nothing is uploaded.
Is xFormat.space available in my language?
Most likely. The site is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Thai, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese. Switch with the language menu at the top of any page; every tool works the same in every language.
